Even though it's just a calendar date, January 1st always makes me melancholic. It’s the bittersweet feeling of a year coming to an end and the anticipation of a new beginning. I realize that I don't have to put so much weight on this date, but we are creatures of habit. I think that's one of the reasons we are so attached to the idea of a new year resolution. And while we can discuss until we are blue in the face that we should seize the moment and we can start something new at any point in time. Let's accept that it's January 6th and today is as good of a day as any to start something new!
Instead of making any specific new year resolutions I decided to pick a quote that will guide me throughout this year. Here it is:
"Life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all" by Helen Keller.
I want to push myself to get out of my comfort zone and take more risks.
As a result, I decided to start blogging again. I have been blogging on and of on a variety of different subjects for a while. However, I realized that I have never written about the topic that I have been passionate about most of my life - Health and Fitness.
In school, I played different sports but what made me fall in love with fitness was a particular moment in my life. I was in middle school, and my sisters got a VHS tape of workouts by Cindy Crawford. Ok, let's address the elephant in the room. Here is what a VHS tape looks like:
This VHS tape, I am really enjoying saying VHS tape, by the way, had several different length workouts. Something about how they filmed these workouts made them look so cool. Those were not old school aerobics videos.
There were black and white inserts, different cuts of Cindy working out in different locations - on the beach, on the rooftop of a building, in a studio. It wasn't pretentious, and she worked out with you throughout the whole thing. You saw her sweat and laugh and enjoy herself, and I loved it. That is when I started working out and going to the gym.
Since then my fitness journey has been pretty consistent but very diverse. I get bored very easily and quickly. Therefore, I need to change my workout routines often. As a result, I try different workout apps, methods, and classes. I love experimenting with different techniques and seeing how they affect my body.
Food is another thing that I have been experimenting with a lot from being a strict vegetarian for four years to becoming a carnivore to switching to a mostly plant-based diet.
By no means do I claim to be a fitness expert or a nutritionist. But if you want to watch me put my body through all these experiments stick around. I hope you enjoy this journey as much as I do.
